Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP)
“Nothing that feels bad is ever the last step.” - Diana Fosha
In AEDP our first step is to undo aloneness. We are here. We see you. We understand there are good reasons why you feel the ways you feel and do the things you do. We will listen with our eyes, ears, with our whole bodies, accept and be present, as you push, pull, shy away, get stuck, tremble, lash out, cry your heart out, speak your truth. Whatever you’ve got, we’re here for it.
An AEDP mantra is “Stay with it, and stay with me.” Without trauma, the most instinctual way we calm ourselves is to turn to another (of course!). When we have been relationally violated, let down by those who were supposed to protect us or alienated with communities where we should belong, we develop compulsive patterns and self-defeating habits that serve us under stress, but later keep us from connection, from living fully with joy. Giving these up can be downright terrifying. Gently and together, we find ways to change, to uncover and become your self-at-best.
In AEDP transformational experiences are positive, by positive we mean something that feels really true and right. How can feeling something painful end up feeling so good?!? Under the right conditions, we find our courage, take risks toward change, experiencing mastery, flourishing and, finally, discovering, proudly shining.
